Review: bConnect Digital Soother
Soother
There are plenty of soothers for babies on the market and the one that works to settle your bub is purely subjective. But there's a recent addition to the market from Fisher-Price that pulls out all the stops to give your little one a soothing or gently stimulating experience, depending on whether they're off to the land of nod or happily entrenched in some tummy time.

The bConnect Digital Soother is customisable and features a variety of soothing and entertaining modes, for in the cot or on the go. There are three soothing apps including ‘Counting Sheep’ and ‘Northern Lights’ to help settle bub, and three sensory stimulating apps including ‘Peek-a-boo Rainforest’ to help your baby’s development.

Another feature allows parents to use a digital camera SD card to upload favourite family photos onto the device. It also plays over 50 tunes and has a variety of sound effects. It claims to be the most advanced soother on the market. We asked Katherine of Elanora Heights, to test drive one for us with her sons, Harley, 4 months, and Kai, 2.

"Our four-month old is already beginning to love the soother. He currently has a music and lights mobile that he watches, but we attached the bConnect Soother to the cot and, soon as he can sit up, the mobile's going – I think Harley will love this toy.

When I opened the box, our two-year-old started playing with it, taking great delight in the rainforest creatures. He immediately worked out how to interact with it and make the little animals appear. The black and white images seem to really entrance Harley. When he was sick, they really settled him – from screaming to smiles in a couple of minutes. Today I've it put on the fishes for him and he seemed to love those, too.
The various soothing bedtime apps are really nice and I think it will be a great way to settle down for a nap. The cute pictures and colours might be soothing for me too in the middle of the night! Although I like the idea of the photos I can't imagine I'll ever get around to finding an SD card and moving photos on there. If it were a cable to USB I'd be more likely to do it. I'm not sure I'll show baby the photos that are on there by default. Some are a little scary!

The soother seems very durable and baby/toddle-proof. The remote control is really handy; it saves fumbling around in the dark trying to turn on music in the night if needed. If only we could use it from our own bed!
We love that the bConnect is portable. This is the first thing our toddler did. I think he thought he was like daddy with his laptop. Unlike some toys where the buttons are too stiff for little ones to press, the roller and buttons are nice and soft to push. Overall we love the toy and think it will get a lot of use in house."

The bConnect from Fisher-Price® is available now at Target, KMART, Big W and all other good baby goods retailers priced $199.
